Can my dog eat ice? Vet Vs The Net
Dave the vet talks about whether ice is safe for dogs…
Can dogs eat ice?
Absolutely! As Dave explains, ice is just water so feeding it to your dog will cause them no problems whatsoever!
Should I feed my dog ice cubes?
Feeding ice cubes to your dog in moderation is a great way of cooling them down, especially during the summer months when the weather is warm. While dogs do sweat the same way as humans do, they can only sweat out of their paws because the rest of their bodies are covered in fur.
They rely heavily on their mouths (drinking and panting) to cool themselves down so an ice cube every now and again can really help to lower their body temperature - just be sure not to overload your dog with ice cubes.
If they're really struggling in the heat, cool their body down slowly - too much ice or cold water can send your dog into a state of shock.
How can I keep my dog cool during the summer?
Overheating, heatstroke and severe dehydration are major threats to dogs during the warmer months. To make sure they’re comfortable, you will need to reduce the risks of heatstroke and to be aware of the symptoms at all times. Click here to read more about cooling your dog down in hot weather.
