How to give your dog a tablet
Giving a dog a tablet can be difficult because they can be wriggly and some breeds are large. You might need to do this if your dog is ill or if you are treating them for worms. Dr David Tweedle explains the easiest way of giving your dog a tablet in our video below.
It’s easiest to give your dog a tablet when they’ve sitting down so before you start, get them sitting in a comfortable position. If you have a helper, it’s best if they place their hand on the dog’s bottom so they can’t wriggle away! If you’re right-handed, take the tablet in your right hand. If you’re left-handed, use your left hand.
Hold the dog’s muzzle or nose with your opposite hand, open their mouth and pop the tablet right to the back of the base of the tongue.
Hold the mouth closed for a second, it helps if you rub the dog’s chin. When they lick their lips, you know they have swallowed the tablet!
