In exactly the same way as we do! As Kath explains, dogs don’t have sweat glands all over their bodies like humans do and can only sweat through their footpads and noses, but the mechanism of sweating is exactly the same.

How else do dogs keep themselves cool?

Panting is a dog’s most common method of keeping cool. The dog breathes out hot air and is able to take in cool air by sticking out their tongue. You’ll naturally see your dog panting more during periods of hot weather or after intense exercise.

What can I do to keep my dog cool?

Especially during the summer months when it’s really warm, your dog will need your help staying cool. The best thing you can do is ensure that they have access to clean and fresh water at all times. If you’re spending long afternoons out in the garden, keep an eye on your dog and bring them inside if they’re panting excessively. During really hot weather, don’t let your dog’s walks get too long and avoid walking in the middle (or hottest parts) of the day.
